Sustainability is responsible for coordinating sustainability initiatives on the campus by facilitating and participating in planning, coordinating implementation, tracking, assessing, and reporting progress. Sustainability is guided by the Climate Action Implementation Plan (CAIP) to achieve the UIC Climate Commitments of Carbon Neutral Campus, Zero Waste Campus, Net Zero Water Campus, and Biodiverse Campus. The OS supports the Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy (CCSE).
Climate Action Implementation Plan
The CAIP is a set of cost-effective, strategic solutions that put into practice the the UIC Climate Commitments that lay the background justifications to the following plans.
The Office of Sustainability tracks and reports, energy data, greenhouse gas emisions, bicycle parking data, recycling rates, and tree inventory data.

The Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy (CCSE) focuses on the hard work of realizing the UIC Climate Commitments via the Climate Action Implementation Plan (CAIP) in the areas of Education & Research, Energy & Utilities, Grounds, Sustainable Materials, and Transportation.
