Net Zero Water Campus Goal: UIC will use the same amount of water in its operations (irrigation, plumbing, etc.) as the amount of natural rainfall on UIC’s campus.
This classroom building is part of the “BAT cave” that was named for a sculptor, educator, and cultural leader who seized Chicago as a place of opportunity. PSPM’s Sustainability Internship Program (SIP) and an Industrial Engineering Design Team researched restroom water usage in this building and found that there is a quick payback—less than 1 year— for retrofitting these regularly used restrooms currently equipped with automatic and/or high-flow fixtures to manual and low-flow fixtures.
