David W. Orr is the Counselor to the President at Oberlin College and Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies & Politics, Emeritus. He is the author of eight books, including his most recent Dangerous Years: Climate Change and the Long Emergency (Yale University Press, 2016). His career as a scholar, teacher, writer, speaker, and entrepreneur spans fields as diverse as environment and politics, environmental education, campus greening, green building design, and climate change. In 1996 he led the effort to design, fund, and build the first substantially green building on a U.S. college campus. The Adam Joseph Lewis Center was later named by the U.S. Department of Energy as  “one of thirty milestone buildings of the twentieth century.” He is the founder of The Oberlin Project, an all-encompassing joint venture by Oberlin College, the Town of Oberlin and private and institutional partners to create a thriving, sustainable community in Oberlin. The SCB-designed Peter B. Lewis Gateway Building is the first project within the Oberlin Green Arts District, a key development initiatives of The Oberlin Project. Read David’s full bio.
