Deborah P. was one of three major winners during Bike 2 Campus Week October 9-16, 2015. She logged 78 trips over the 7 day inter-collegiate contest and helped UIC win the tittle of Most Recorded Rides in the gorilla category. We asked Deborah how she was able to accomplish such a feat.
Office of Sustainability: Please tell us how you rode your bike during October 9 – 16, 2015. Where did you go?
Deborah P.: Everyday, I ride my bike to class, in between different buildings (for different classes), between the [east and west side of] campus (where I have classes and other activities), and back home. Additionally, I ride my bike to the grocery store and to coffee shops during the week. Suffice to say, I wouldn’t survive without my bike.
OS: That must be exhausting! Did you go far?
DP: Not really. I just make a lot of trips on my bike. I usually ride my bike locally in between the two UIC campuses as well as the local grocery store.
OS: Why do you ride?
DP: I ride my bicycle because it is quick, and allows me to get to places on my own schedule. In addition, bikes are eco-friendly since they limit the amount of pollution produced by other forms of transportation.
OS: What inspired you to ride so much during Bike 2 Campus Week?
DP: I love riding my bike because I have the freedom to go anywhere at anytime. It feel safer biking at night than walking on the streets, and it is great exercise.
We can’t argue with that, Deborah! Keep up the good work!
